The Amicae (pronounced Ah-mee-ky) Auxiliary of Philadelphia is the adult women’s auxiliary group of Beta Delta Zeta Chapter – a nationally acclaimed auxiliary having been rewarded for its large membership and industrious programming for several consecutive years. The Amicae, or “Friends”, have been an integral part of Beta Delta Zeta Chapter’s life. Who are the Amicae? The Amicae, or Friends, are a group of women, who for various reasons did not pursue a college degree, but encompass the same ideals of Zeta women and have a desire to assist in furthering the programming of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. As early as 1940, graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta began to realize the importance of the prestige, good will and cooperation of women who, for various reasons, were not members of any Greek-letter organization. History of the Amicae Auxiliary of Philadelphia Under the administration of Past National President Lullelia W. Harrison, the first Amicae chapter was organized in Omaha, Nebraska in 1947, making Zeta the first sorority in the National Pan-Hellenic Council to organize an auxiliary group. Five years later, Beta Delta Zeta Chapter organized the Amicae Auxiliary of Philadelphia on July 23, 1952, led by Dr. Anna Young. The Amicae were chartered on July 26, 1953 under Dr. Young’s sponsorship and under the leadership of Beta Delta Zeta’s 4th President, Myrtle Glenn.
